The series also promotes awareness of targeted phishing and imposter scams delivered via phone and text messaging.
Data from the Federal Trade Commission suggest older adults in the US had up to a staggering $61.5 billion stolen from them through fraud in 2023. (https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/federal-trade-commission-protecting-older-adults-report_102024.pdf). Fraud affects all demographics, but older adults are more likely than others to experience a catastrophic financial impact, as well as experience significant emotional and health harms. This game-based fraud prevention education program aims to:
– Empower older adults with practical cyber protection awareness
– Educate through engaging, interactive learning games using real-world scenarios
– Help older adults recognize and prevent potential fraud before it occurs
– Encourage secure digital habits and behavioral change
The game-based learning series offers personalized, interactive experiences that make cybersecurity education accessible, understandable, and enjoyable for older adults. Initial key topics include: Creating Strong Passwords; Staying Safe on Social Media; Detecting Imposter and Phishing Scams.  Â
